Last Friday, the Emirati leader hosted delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi for a trilateral meeting addressing the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

The diplomatic engagement extended into Sunday with a separate meeting featuring Russia’s envoy for investment and economic cooperation Kirill Dimitrev, who delivered a personal message of gratitude from President Putin for convening the three-party dialogue to advance diplomatic efforts regarding Ukraine.

The UAE Foreign Ministry stated the negotiations were part of efforts “to identify political solutions to the crisis.” The White House described them as productive, while the Kremlin viewed positively the start of direct contacts between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.

Russia insisted that, to reach a peace agreement, Kiev must withdraw its troops from the eastern regions. Last Friday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reaffirmed that Moscow’s demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas is a “very important condition”, adding there are other “nuances” on the agenda.

Peskov further revealed that further trilateral contacts on the Ukrainian conflict are planned for the near future.
